D’VINE JAZZ AND WINE SHOP OPENING AT MADRONE VILLAGE SHOPPING CENTER
MORGAN HILL -- D’Vine Jazz & Wine, a new business that will provide the South Valley’s first wine bar and jazz room and one of the area’s few venues of any kind for regular live entertainment, has leased 3,775 square feet of space in the Madrone Village Shopping Center. The business is expected to open the middle of December next to Chipotle Mexican Grill, announced Brad Krouskup, president of shopping center owner Toeniskoetter & Breeding Inc. Development (TBI Development).
D’Vine Jazz and Wine will offer a comfortable venue for wine tasting, jazz entertainment and full-service retail sales of fine wines. It will feature live jazz on weekends and piped-in jazz on weekdays, paired with customers’ favorite wines and appetizers.
A Morgan Hill couple with a background in the technology industry, Ricardo and Linda Rivera, are building D’Vine Jazz & Wine. Formerly the owner of a successful dental prosthetics laboratory, he is a product manager at Oracle Corporation. She has had a long career as a publisher of semiconductor documents, web design and management, as well as marketing communications manager for various companies, including Sony Electronics Inc. Both are wine enthusiasts with sommelier training.
The jazz interest stems from their musical backgrounds. Mr. Rivera is a trombonist who studied music in college. He has 20 years experience as a jazz musician in road bands as well as local musical productions. The bands include the “Bay Bones” 40-trombone band and the “Daddio Band,” and the venues include the Reno and Russian River Jazz Festivals. He also has been a featured artist at Bay Area clubs. Mrs. Rivera has experience in music performance as a singer.
While offering a broad spectrum of domestic and foreign wines, D’Vine Jazz & Wine will provide a special focus on local wineries. The Riveras, for example, have developed relationships with vintners at Guglielmo in Morgan Hill, Clos La Chance in San Martin and Solis Winery and the Thomas Kruse Winery, both in Gilroy. They plan to offer wine tasting and both wine and jazz education. They will hold seminars featuring special guests and educators from the wine industry and musicians versed in all aspects of jazz.
In addition to wine, the business also will serve a limited menu of gourmet appetizers and desserts. The retail store will offer fine wines by the bottle for both onsite and offsite consumption, as well as discounted purchases for large accounts. Wine and jazz merchandise also will be available.

Jazz musicians and bands will perform Friday and Saturday nights, and the Riveras anticipate jam sessions on Sunday afternoons. They hope to become a popular destination for both before and after for restaurant diners.
“While new to Morgan Hill, wine bars and jazz rooms are popular in many urban areas,” Ricardo Rivera said. “Usually, they are associated with a restaurant and are therefore restricted by a need to lower the sound level so people can talk. We expect our musicians to be more at ease and really open up.”
D’Vine Jazz and Wine is the fifth business to locate in the new 80,000-square-foot Madrone Village Shopping Center. In addition to Chipotle Mexican Grill, the other businesses there will be South Valley National Bank, Peet’s Coffee & Tea and FedEx Kinko’s. When the jazz and wine bar opens, 5,000 square feet will remain for lease in the four-building, 28,000-square-foot first phase of the shopping center on Cochrane Road.
“We are talking with several major anchor stores about leasing space in the second, 50,000-square-foot phase of development,” Krouskup said. “We expect to have one or two more stores to complete the first phase and one to three anchor stores in the second phase.”
Madrone Village Shopping Center lies adjacent to the Madrone Business Park and Cochrane Business Ranch, with 700,000 square feet of existing floor space and 1.1 million square feet at full development. Across Cochrane Road, the 400-acre Morgan Hill Ranch is the largest business park in Silicon Valley. Madrone Village Shopping Center is located across Madrone Parkway from the Marriott Residence Inn, Courtyard by Marriott and Chevron Station.
The design is early California with clay tile roofs. The architect is Arc Tec Inc. of Phoenix. Cornish & Carey brokers working on the project include Sean O’Carroll, Danielle Bromstead and Lindsey Spieker. All are located in the Santa Clara office.
Founded in 1983, Toeniskoetter & Breeding, Inc. Development has developed some 2.5 million square feet of buildings, manages a portfolio of two million square feet and serves as managing general partner for a number of diversified real estate properties throughout Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. Previous projects include 450 West Santa Clara Street, the O’Connor Health Center and 525 Race St., all in San Jose; Gateway Square in Campbell and the Granite Creek Business Center in Scotts Valley.
